Bright Star

Director's Note

Stories.

They contain hope and grief, joy, sadness, laughter, tears, triumphs, and desolation. But every chapter is necessary. Each one gives shape, depth, and meaning to the story being told.

Every single story has worth.

What is the story of your life? My guess is that we all have days full to the brim with joy, light, and hope. And then there are the days in which life is dark, when grief or despair overwhelm.

Something that really drew me to this show is the main character, Alice Murphy. She shares multiple chapters of her life with us. We meet her as an adult woman - an accomplished editor who has achieved much and seems fairly content. Then, we join her as she remembers her teenage years and many of the hardships that happened therein.

Alice’s story, for me, is full of joy. Even in the midst of despair, she preserves. She finds hope in every chapter.

May our hearts and minds do the same.
